"Cheer Me Up" is a song originally performed by British singer Natasha Bedingfield, co-written with Toby Gad. It was released on January 22, 2008, as part of the North American iTunes Store pre-order edition of her album Pocketful of Sunshine.

Victoria Justice covered the song for the Nickelodeon television series Victorious. Her version was released as the sixth track on the deluxe version of the series' second extended play, Victorious 3.0: Even More Music from the Hit TV Show, on November 6, 2012.

Background and release[]

Although "Cheer Me Up" was performed in an episode of the third season of Victorious, the song wasn't released in any way at the time and included on the series' first extended play Victorious 2.0: More Music from the Hit TV Show. On May 24, 2012, five days after the premiere of this episode, Victoria Justice tweeted she loves this song and noted people were asking for her full version of it, suggesting she might perform it on her tour.[1][2]

On October 16, it was announced that a second EP of music from the series, Victorious 3.0: Even More Music from the Hit TV Show, would be released on November 6. Its special version, released on compact disc exclusively at Walmart, includes two bonus songs, "Cheer Me Up" and "365 Days", which don't appear on the digital version.

Justice performed "Cheer Me Up" on her 2013 second concert tour, Summer Break Tour, alongside her younger half-sister Madison Reed.

In the series[]

"Cheer Me Up" was performed by Tori Vega (portrayed by Victoria Justice) in the episode "Tori Goes Platinum" (the same episode "Freak the Freak Out", "5 Fingaz to the Face", and "Make It in America" were performed), that premiered on May 19, 2012. Tori performs this song at the auditions to win the opportunity to perform at the Platinum Music Awards ceremony. Its producer Mason Thornesmith (portrayed by Charles Shaughnessy) likes her performance best of all, and as a result, Tori wins the contest.

Lyrics[]

[Intro]
Mmm, whoa, whoa
Yeah, uhh

[Verse 1]
You get me out of my seat, it's like I've been in bed for a week
I've been slippin' n' slidin' all over the place
And nobody cares, I'm such a disgrace
You get me out of my mood, that's something only you can do
'Cause I feel like I'm home when I'm in your arms
And that's why I need you to

[Chorus]
Cheer me up
Come on, dance with me (whoa)
And you take my hand
Oh, cheer me up (oh, oh)
Even if we're the only ones dancing
Cheer me up (whoa-whoa)
Please won't you cheer me up (oh, oh)
Even if we're the only ones dancing

[Verse 2]
Give me a reason to smile, the kind that will last for a while
Like only you know how, make it OK now
You've got your ways to make this girl's day
It's the magic that's in your touch, it makes everything mean so much
The poetry in your eyes is enough in itself
To take me to a high
Whoa (you take me to a high), whoa
You gotta cheer me up

[Chorus]
Cheer me up
Come on, dance with me (whoa)
And you take my hand
Oh, cheer me up (oh, oh)
Even if we're the only ones dancing
Cheer me up (whoa-whoa)
Please won't you cheer me up (oh, oh)
Even if we're the only ones dancing

[Bridge]
You turn my frown upside down
My smile's lost and found
When you are around
(You cheer me up, you cheer me up)
You turn my frown upside down
My smile's lost and found
When you are around

[Chorus]
Oh, you cheer me up
Come on, dance with me (whoa)
And you take my hand (whoa)
Oh, cheer me up (oh, oh)
Even if we're the only ones dancing
Cheer me up (whoa-whoa)
Please won't you cheer me up (oh, oh)
Even if we're the only ones dancing

[Post-chorus]
Only you got the magic
Only you got the key
To my heart
To my heart (oh, yeah)
Only you got the magic
Only you got the way
To my heart
You gotta cheer me up

[Chorus]
Oh, you cheer me up
Come on, dance with me (whoa)
And you take my hand
Oh, cheer me up (oh, oh)
Even if we're the only ones dancing
Cheer me up (whoa-whoa)
Please won't you cheer me up (oh, oh)
Even if we're the only ones dancing

You gotta cheer me up (oh, you)

[Chorus]
Cheer me up
Come on, dance with me (whoa)
And you take my hand
Cheer me up (oh, oh)

You turn my frown upside down

(You cheer me up, cheer me up)
You turn my frown upside down
My smile's lost and found
When you are around
(Just a little bit of cheer)

[Chorus]
Cheer me up
Come on, dance with me (whoa)
And you take my hand (whoa)
You cheer me up (oh, oh)
Even if we're the only ones dancing
Cheer me up, dance with me (whoa)

[Post-chorus]
Only you got the magic
Only you got the key
To my heart (only you got the key)
To my heart
Yeah, yeah, oh
Only you got the magic
Only you got the way
To my heart (yeah, yeah, oh)
Even if were the only one's dancing (Cheer me up)
Happiness can last forever, I want a part of it
Even just a little bit (Even if were the only one's dancing)

[Outro]
Happiness can last forever
I want a part of it
Even just a little bit
